About Sabine Berendse

Sabine Berendse is the founder of Green Phenix in Curaçao, a social enterprise that connects plastic waste, circularity, and inclusive employment. She works at the intersection of social entrepreneurship, research, and writing.
Follow Your Heart Book - From doubt to decisiveness and impact
In her work, she explores how personal choices can ripple outward to drive larger societal change. She connects the inner landscape of life—such as attention, direction, and resilience—with the outer world: the way we interact with each other, with communities, and with the environment around us.

With a background in social psychology and years of experience as an entrepreneur in Curaçao, Sabine has seen firsthand how deeply interconnected people, communities, and systems truly are. What a person chooses, carries, or leaves behind rarely remains personal. It echoes through relationships, organizations, and communities, often far beyond what we can see.

This conviction forms the very core of her writing.

Follow Your Heart emerged from her own search for direction, resilience, and purpose. It grew out of moments when pushing forward no longer felt the same as staying true to herself—and from the question of how to keep listening to what aligns, especially when life becomes complex and demands a great deal from you.
Alongside her work with Green Phenix, Sabine pursues academic research into resilience, vulnerability, and future-oriented governance in Small Island Developing States. There, too, the same question resurfaces: how do we build lives, communities, and systems that are fairer, stronger, and more balanced?

In both her work and her writing, she constantly returns to one central question:

How do you stay true to yourself while contributing to something greater than yourself?
Follow Your Heart is her first book.
